The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program helps train people to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their communities. When emergencies occur, CERT members can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. CERT members can also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community. The program consists of 20 hours of training with hands-on practice with trained emergency responders such as Firefighters and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel teach classes. Prosper CERT members are trained in basic self-help and mutual-aid emergency functions such as:
- Disaster Preparedness
- Fire Safety
- Disaster Medical Operations
- Light Search and Rescue
- CERT Organization
- Disaster Psychology
- Terrorism and CERT
